In 1822, Peter, age 22, and Paschall, about 26, set up shop in New York City. The 1822/1823 Longworth’s City Directory reads: “Rose & Sellers, cutlers 116 William.” Their next location was 72 William St., (the label on this set). They were at this address through 1827, as shown in this advertisement.
Rose & Sellers were in New York City until early 1828, when they moved to Boston. This advertisement appeared in the first issue of the first volume of the Boston Medical and Surgical Journal, dated February 19, 1828. Note how Sellers now has first billing – perhaps Sellers ran the Boston branch of the company.
It is not known how long they were in Boston, but it appears brief. In May, 1828 their partnership dissolved. Peter continued solo at the 72 William location. Paschall moved back to Philadelphia, and died about 1830, likely from tuberculosis. In 1845, Peter Rose’s name disappeared from New York City business and census directories, and any further details of his life are unknown.
