DR. MORTON SIGNS HIS UNCLE’S PERSONAL COPY OF THE BOOK
This book is in good condition in the original cloth, with gilt lettering. It was written by Nathan P. Rice and published by Pudney & Russell (New York) in 1859. It is a first edition, second printing. It should be noted that this biography of Morton, by Nathan P. Rice, was undertaken with Morton’s blessing and collaboration to help him justify his claim. Some recent biographers claim it cannot be considered as impartial, or as much more than promotional literature.
The frontispiece is inscribed as follows:
Reuben Morton Esq
with kind regards of
William T.G. Morton
NB: William T.G. Morton was the son of James Morton (born 1787). James’ brother Reuben Morton was born in 1792. Reuben lived in Southbridge, Mass. and died in 1881.
