c. 1868 Apothecary Scale by V.W. Brinkerhoff

This small, wood-mounted balance/scale could be used in an apothecary to weigh medications dispensed.  There is no marking on the scale itself, other than “warranted accurate”.  However, there are three weights, 8 , 4 and 2 0z. in size, and the largest fits into its spot perfectly.  It is marked “V.W. Brinckerhoff, N. Y.”   This is VanWyck Brinkerhoff (sometimes spelled Brinckerhoff ), who was in business from 1856  – 1868.   This scale is not pictured in his 1859 catalog shown in the photo (note that the name is spelled “Brinckerhoff”), and is probably c. 1865  – 1868.
